School Educational Visits
Southern Fire & Rescue
would like to point out before you book us for your school's educational
visit, that you should
initially call your local Fire & Rescue Service. They will be happy to
send a fire engine for you, however be aware that this
engine will be on emergency call, and may be called away at any time (or
may not turn up at all if it is on a 999 call).
Southern Fire &
Rescue's Crew will not be on call as our fire engines are NOT
front line machines and have finished there
time with the fire service, so we will not be called away. However we
only talk to your school children and show them what is
carried on a fire engine and explain the work that fire-fighters do. If
you would like more information than this then we will be
happy to put you in touch with your local fire and rescue service to
make sure that you get the must up to date information.
All Fire and Rescue
Services have specific programmes to target certain audiences with
specific messages. To that end, Southern
Fire & Rescue Service works alongside your local service, and hold
regular meetings with each DCFO to ensure that we continue to
provide the right information, and that we only cover the basics,
and work within their program. We are clearly not trying to do
the job of your local Fire & Rescue Service, but work alongside to help
when they are stretched and unable to attend your visit.
All our school visits are
completely free of charge.
Like your local Fire & Rescue Service, we feel very strongly about
the importance of the Fire Safety message.
All our staff that attend school visits are fully CRB checked.
